A share of a good article about Standardize of Dayak Music Industry [DAMA], credit to DAMA, do visit their website by clicking the DAMA of the source of the articles.

Dayak Artistes and Musicians Association (DAMA) main committee were told to set a standard that is ‘good’, possibly ‘the best’ comparatively speaking, so that all those in the music industry are heading towards that standard, making it as a focal point of the industry.

It must be a standard that ‘will outlive you’ and you must not go down from there, but instead, you must go up.

“You must establish a standard that nobody could shake.

Secondly, don’t compromise for the sake of other dictates and don’t put yourselves above DAMA interests,” said Minister of Social Development Tan Sri Dato Sri William Mawan Ikom yesterday to the DAMA main committee led by its Chairman Snowdan Lawan who made a courtesy call on him at his office in Bangunan Masja here.

He also told them to go for something that spans into the future, incredible and not easily challenged.

Mawan also advised the group about the need to have dialogues, workshops or seminars and bring in people who are experienced in the music industry to pump in new ideas and expertise.By doing so the association members and others in the industry will certainly benefit, the Minister pointed out.

Yesterday’s courtesy call on Mawan was to cordially invite him to be the Patron of DAMA and simultaneously inviting him to grace the Anugerah Muzik Dayak (AMD) awards by DAMA as guest of honour .The function will be held on Saturday 24 November this year at the new and state-of-the-art Dewan Tunku Abdul Rahman PUTRA or in short DeTAR PUTRA of the University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Kota Samarahan Kampus.

Besides Snowdan, the main committee in the courtesy call yesterday included Deputy Chairman Austin ak James Nieet, Hon.

Secretary Anyai John Jaban, Brown Sang ak Lagan, Alex Ayong Jemat, Daniel Bampa, Hon Treasurer Ges Barundang @ Elges, Steven Oliver Jalin, Lembat ak Imban @ Embat Lala, Veronica Tresa Michael Jidang, Inja Margaret Bucking, Rachel Simai Edward Anding, Susana Koh, Romana Joshua and Valentine Tawie, the writer and DAMA Publicity Officer.

During the call Embat Lala, who owns the Panggau Buluh Pengerindu Production House (PBP) in Sibu enlightened lengthily the Minister regarding the cases of CDs and VDCs piracy or infringement of copyrights which is doing great damage to the Dayak music industry.

On the music piracy, Mawan assured Embat and the rest of the DAMA committee that they were not standing alone in facing the threat.

“This is a major problem that must be faced together.I will talk to the right authority, including the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) about this and see how it can be tackled. You are not alone in this,” stressed the Minister.

On the future of the association, Mawan advised the committee to go global with their products having in mind that they must reflect their niche as a culture-based non-governmental organisation (NGO).

“Find out who is or who are in between you and the targets you are setting, list out the details and set your course.By indulging in such ventures, you are on track for global market and success.

“You must be able to sustain on your own because over dependency can lead to manipulation.

There must be a steady flow of income because you can’t expect the government to give funds to you all the time,” Mawan stressed adding that the Ministry is always with them.
